When a saloon earns its price: long distances and real comfort

A saloon is a motorway tool. Morocco has a genuinely good motorway network between Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech and Agadir, and on those roads the difference between a small car and a saloon is not speed, it is fatigue. Better seats, more sound insulation and a boot that swallows four suitcases without negotiation turn a four-hour drive into something you arrive from rested.

Inside a city, that advantage inverts completely. A saloon is harder to park in Fes or Tetouan, more exposed in narrow streets, and no faster than anything else in traffic. If the itinerary is one city plus short excursions, this category is money spent on a benefit the trip never calls on.

Worth checking before you book: boot shape matters as much as boot volume on a saloon, because the opening is smaller than on an estate or an SUV. Families travelling with a pushchair or with hard cases often find the numbers flatter the reality. If the luggage is bulky rather than heavy, look at the SUV category instead.
