Renting a car in Morocco: requirements, licences and documents

How old do you have to be to rent a car in Morocco?
The usual floor is 21, with a driving licence held for at least two years. The two conditions go together: a 23-year-old who passed their test last year does not meet the second one.
Premium categories follow a stricter rule. Luxury vehicles and large SUVs are often restricted to drivers over 25. Each partner agency states its own rule on the vehicle page, and that is what counts at the counter.
Do you need an international driving permit in Morocco?
It is the alphabet that decides, not the nationality. A valid national licence is enough if it is written in the Latin alphabet. That covers British, Irish, American, Canadian, French, Spanish and many other licences: their holders have nothing to arrange.
If your licence is written in another script — Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, Greek — an international driving permit is required alongside it. One point not to miss: you obtain it in your own country before departure, never at the rental counter. Planning to sort it out on arrival is the classic bad surprise.
What documents do you need to show?
Two things, every time: a valid driving licence and an identity document or passport. Add the deposit when the agency asks for one — it does not always. The international permit is added to the first two when the alphabet requires it.
The deposit depends on the agency: Loccor offers cars with a deposit and others with none. Every vehicle page shows it before booking — the amount required, or “No deposit”. When one is required, it is taken at the counter and returned when you bring the vehicle back, in the form set by the agency. Loccor never collects it: it passes directly between you and the agency, as the vehicle itself does.
Driving in Morocco: what to know before you set off
Morocco drives on the right. Limits are 120 km/h on motorways, 100 km/h outside built-up areas and 60 km/h in town, with frequent checks and fixed cameras on the main routes. The motorway network between Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech and Agadir is tolled, well maintained and clearly signposted.
In the medinas, driving is difficult or simply not allowed. The local habit is to park at the edge and continue on foot, and it is also the quickest way in. In town, an attendant will often guide you into a space and keep an eye on the car; a small coin on your return is the custom, not a shakedown.
Can you return the car in a different city?
That depends on the agency: some accept one-way rentals with a return fee, others do not. Two ways round it: ask us on WhatsApp before booking, or book with the Flexible plan and then ask the agency from your account — if it says no, you can cancel up to 72 hours before pickup and get your deposit back (the service fee is not refunded).
What you pay, and to whom
The rate shown on a vehicle page is the agency's own, not a figure rebuilt by the platform. Loccor adds a service fee, itemised in the price breakdown before you confirm: you see the total rather than a sum that grows at the last step.
The agency's identity — its name, address and telephone number — is passed to you once the booking is confirmed. That protects our partners from being bypassed, and it guarantees you that the price displayed is the price that will be honoured.
