Do you need an international driving permit in Morocco?
It is the alphabet that decides, not the nationality. A valid national licence is enough if it is written in the Latin alphabet. That covers British, Irish, American, Canadian, French, Spanish and many other licences: their holders have nothing to arrange.
If your licence is written in another script — Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, Greek — an international driving permit is required alongside it. The motorway network between Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech and Agadir is tolled, well maintained and clearly signposted.
In the medinas, driving is difficult or simply not allowed. The local habit is to park at the edge and continue on foot, and it is also the quickest way in. In town, an attendant will often guide you into a space and keep an eye on the car; a small coin on your return is the custom, not a shakedown.
Can you return the car in a different city?
That depends on the agency, and it is a question to settle before booking rather than after. Some accept one-way rentals with a return fee, others do not. Two ways round it: contact the agency through your account once the booking is made, or pick an agency that operates in both cities from the start.
What you pay, and to whom
