You will walk the medina, but a car earns its keep the moment you leave the city walls. The Ourika valley lies 30 km away, under an hour on a road that climbs gently towards the High Atlas. Essaouira is 175 km by the N8 and then the R207, close to three hours. The Ouzoud waterfalls are 150 km to the north-east. Heading for Ouarzazate, the N9 crosses the Tizi n Tichka pass at over 2,200 metres, with tight bends and slow lorries, and Aït Ben Haddou at 180 km.
