1. Ground clearance built for speed bumps and potholes
Unlike European city cars set low for sharp handling on smooth motorways, Dacias were designed from the start to absorb broken surfaces and rural tracks.
Their raised ride height — markedly so on the Sandero Stepway and the Duster — lets you clear the speed bumps at village entrances, abrupt changes in the asphalt and stony verges without wincing. Where the front bumper of a low saloon scrapes, the Dacia goes through.
2. Modest fuel consumption over long distances
The dCi diesel engines remain the most frugal of the range: between 4.5 and 5.5 litres per 100 kilometres on main roads and motorways, driven calmly. The TCe petrol engines, more common on recent models, sit closer to 6 litres, more in the mountains and with the air conditioning running constantly.
On a 1,500-kilometre loop between Marrakech, Ouarzazate, Fez and Tangier, the fuel budget gap against a big SUV or a heavy saloon runs into hundreds of dirhams. That is what makes the difference on a long stay.
3. Repairable anywhere: every garage has the part
This is a serious advantage when you travel far from the big cities. A puncture, a cracked headlight, a blown fuse: any garage by the side of a national road knows Dacia mechanics and stands a good chance of having the part in stock.
You will not be stuck for days waiting on an imported component — which remains a real risk with a rare or heavily electronic model.
4. The Duster: versatility without the price of a true 4x4
The Duster is still the benchmark affordable SUV in Morocco: a boot of more than 400 litres, a reassuring stance and a ride that soaks up bad roads.
Do not mistake it for an off-roader, though: most rental Dusters are two-wheel drive, which is plenty for graded tracks and mountain roads — not for soft sand in the dunes. It is a good companion for a family of four wanting to combine the imperial cities with escapes towards the south.

Frequently asked questions
Is a Dacia's air conditioning enough in the height of a Moroccan summer?
Yes on recent models, provided you let it work: park in the shade whenever you can, and do not wait until the cabin hits 45 °C to switch it on. The temperature comes down more slowly than in a premium car.
Can a fully loaded Logan climb the Tichka pass?
Without trouble, as long as you accept dropping a gear on the steeper sections. With four adults and luggage, the diesel copes better than the petrol. Keep an eye on engine temperature in high summer and avoid running the air conditioning flat out on long climbs.
How much does it cost to rent a Dacia on Loccor?
