Dacias were designed for rough roads and country tracks, not smooth motorways. Their suspension copes with patched tarmac, stony verges and potholes better than a low-slung European city car.

The dCi diesels are still the thriftiest in the range on national roads and motorways. Far from the big cities, this is what matters. A puncture, a broken headlight, a blown fuse: the mechanic by the national road knows Dacias inside out and has a good chance of having the part on the shelf.

Yes on recent models, if you give it a hand: park in the shade when you can and switch it on as soon as you set off rather than waiting until the cabin is roasting. It cools more slowly than in a premium car.
