Visiting the Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca by car: getting there, guided tours and the Habous quarter

Set right on the Atlantic shore, the Hassan II Mosque is one of the few mosques in Morocco that non-Muslims can visit, on a guided tour. Its 210-metre minaret is easy to spot from the Corniche or the port. With a hire car, you can combine it with the Aïn Diab Corniche and the Habous quarter on the same day.

How do you get to the Hassan II Mosque by car?

From Mohammed V Airport, allow about thirty kilometres of motorway to central Casablanca, around 35 minutes outside rush hour, then a few more minutes to the seafront. From Casa-Voyageurs station the mosque is only a few kilometres away, but how long it takes depends mostly on the traffic.

The mosque stands on the oceanfront, west of the port, and the minaret makes it easy to spot from a distance. At rush hour, crossing Casablanca can take much longer than these times, so a morning visit is the better bet.

For parking, leave the car near the Hassan II Mosque or in the surrounding streets. As elsewhere in Casablanca, attendants often watch the cars and ask for a few coins when you leave. Arrive a little before your guided tour so you have time to park and reach the visitors' entrance.

Guided tours: times and what to expect

Non-Muslims visit the mosque on a paid guided tour run by the Hassan II Mosque Foundation. The tour takes in the prayer hall, the minaret hall and the ablutions hall.

According to the Foundation’s page, checked on 6 October 2026, from 16 September to 14 March tours leave Saturday to Thursday at 9 am, 10 am, 11 am, noon and 3 pm, and on Friday at 9 am, 10 am and 3 pm. From 15 March to 15 September, a 4 pm tour is added. Times change during Ramadan. The adult ticket for foreign visitors is listed at 140 dirhams. Check times and prices on the Foundation’s official website before you go.

Dress code and visiting rules

You need clothing that covers your shoulders, chest and knees: shorts and sleeveless tops are not accepted. Shoes come off and are carried in a bag handed out at the entrance.

Video cameras, radios and sound devices are not allowed inside, and there is no smoking or drinking during the tour. If your day starts at the beach, keep suitable clothes in the car.

After the mosque: the Corniche and the Habous quarter

The Aïn Diab Corniche begins west of the mosque, a few minutes’ drive along the sea. It is the place for lunch facing the ocean or a walk by the water.

In the other direction, south of the city centre, the Habous quarter is the “new medina”, planned in 1917 and built between 1918 and 1955. Its arcaded lanes, bookshops and craft shops are best explored on foot: park nearby, then walk.
