What is Morocco’s country code?

Morocco's country code is +212 (00 212 from most European countries). A Moroccan mobile number has 10 digits and starts with 06 or 07; according to ANRT, Morocco's telecoms regulator, operators have been handing out 07 numbers since 7 August 2016.

To call a Moroccan mobile from abroad, drop the leading 0: 06 12 34 56 78 becomes +212 6 12 34 56 78. Inside Morocco, dial all 10 digits.

SIM card in Morocco: which operators?

Three operators share the mobile market: Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc and inwi. All sell prepaid top-up SIMs in their shops and through plenty of small resellers.

Bring ID: ANRT requires every mobile subscriber to be identified with an official document. For a traveller, that means your passport, so have it on you when you buy the SIM.

Can you get an eSIM in Morocco?

Yes. inwi offers an eSIM, activated by scanning a QR code. Orange Maroc also sells eSIM plans. Prices and terms change often, so check the operator's page or ask in store.

Before you leave, check that your phone supports eSIM and is not locked to your home network.

Why a local SIM matters when you drive

Live navigation, messages with the agency at pick-up, a call if you break down: it all runs on mobile data. Morocco is outside the EU roaming area, and a local SIM saves you roaming charges.

Still download an offline map of your route before you set off: in the Atlas and the south, the signal can drop between villages.

Your rental agency’s contact details

On Loccor, the agency's name, address and phone number are sent to you once your booking is confirmed, and on the Flexible option at the end of the cancellation window, 72 hours before pick-up. Save the number with the +212 code so it works from a foreign SIM as well as a Moroccan one.
