Automatic car hire in Morocco: cities, models and prices

Automatic cars are not rare in Morocco: on 3 October 2026, two in three cars in the Loccor catalogue had an automatic gearbox. It all depends on where you start. In Casablanca you will be spoilt for choice; in Fez or Agadir there is next to nothing. Cities, models, prices and the search filter, in that order.

Is automatic car hire easy to find in Morocco?

Yes, in the big cities. On 3 October 2026, two in three cars in the Loccor catalogue were automatics, against one in three manuals.

An automatic makes Moroccan driving simpler: jams in Casablanca, tight roundabouts in Marrakech, steep streets in Tangier. If you have never driven a manual, don’t learn on holiday.

Automatic car hire: which cities?

On 3 October 2026, nearly two in three automatics were in Casablanca. Marrakech, Al Hoceima and Tangier came next, then Tetouan; in Ouarzazate, Rabat, Nador, Agadir and Fez there were almost none.

Casablanca has most of the offer. For automatic car hire in Marrakech or Tangier the choice is fair; in Fez, Agadir or Rabat it is very limited, so book early or pick the car up in Casablanca if your route allows.

Which automatic cars, and at what price?

SUVs lead: more than half of the automatics. There are also, in decreasing order, compact cars, economy cars, luxury cars, saloons and a few minibuses.

Cheap automatic car hire starts at 230 dirhams a day on 3 October 2026, in Casablanca, Marrakech and Tangier. A manual is slightly cheaper, from 200 dirhams a day. As with every car, the daily price often drops from 7, 15 or 30 days.

How to show only automatic cars

In the search, the “Transmission” filter keeps only automatic cars. The gearbox is also shown on every car card and car page, before booking.

On 3 October 2026, a few automatics could also be rented without a deposit: they carry the “No deposit” label in the results.

Driving an automatic in Morocco: what to know

On motorways and in town, an automatic is straightforward. On mountain roads in the Atlas or the Rif, use manual mode or a low gear on long descents so the brakes do not overheat.

Everything else is unchanged: a 20% advance and the service fee online, the balance paid to the agency at pick-up. With or without a deposit depending on the agency: the car page says so before payment.
