How much does a car rental in Morocco cost per day?
Across the entire Loccor catalog, an economy car (Dacia Logan, Sandero, Kia Picanto...) costs between 150 and 500 DH per day, with a typical price of 300 DH. A compact car ranges from 200 to 1,400 DH, with a typical price of 400 DH. An SUV starts at 230 DH and goes up to 1,800 DH, with half of the models renting for 500 DH or less.
Sedans range from 300 to 600 DH per day, while minibuses and 7-seaters go from 400 to 1,100 DH. The Luxury category is the only one that skyrockets: from 900 DH for entry-level models up to 12,000 DH for the rarest ones, with a typical price around 2,300 DH.
These amounts are public daily prices, as the customer sees them before booking. The "typical price" is the median: half of the cars in the category cost less, the other half more. It tells you better than an average what you will actually pay, because a few very expensive cars do not skew it.
City-by-city rates: where is it cheapest to rent?
In Casablanca, Marrakech, and Tanger, competition between agencies drives prices down: an economy car can be rented from 250 DH per day, which is also its most frequent price. In both Marrakech and Tanger, most SUVs stay under 300 DH, making them the two most advantageous cities for a family trip with plenty of trunk space.
In Rabat, an economy car costs from 250 to 400 DH, and an SUV starts at 350 DH. In Tétouan, you can find the cheapest city cars in the country, starting at 150 DH. Agadir shows a very stable rate, around 270 DH for both an economy and a compact car.
In the Oriental and the Middle Atlas, in Nador, Oujda, and Fès, an economy car starts at 250 or 300 DH, but the supply leans towards newer SUVs and compacts, hence higher typical prices: expect often 700 to 900 DH per day for an SUV. If you are on a tight budget, a city car remains the best deal in these cities.
Does the rental duration lower the daily price?
Yes, and it is the most powerful factor. The vast majority of cars in the catalog apply a sliding scale rate: after a certain number of days, often 7, 15, and then 30, the daily price drops. A week is therefore almost always cheaper, on a per-day basis, than three or four days.
Also keep in mind the minimum duration: on Loccor, no rental goes under 3 days, and the Luxury category requires a minimum of 5 days. For a stay of a month or more, our monthly rental guide details long-term rates.
High season, low season: when do prices change?
Rates go up during the summer, with the return of Moroccans living abroad, as well as during the end-of-year holidays and European school holidays. This is also the time when the cheapest cars go first: book early if you are traveling in July or August.
Outside these periods, many agencies apply low-season prices. Autumn and late spring are often the best compromise between price, weather, and clear roads.
What is added to the daily price: deposit, mileage, options
The deposit is not a cost, but it counts in your budget: it is an amount blocked or deposited at the agency during the rental, then returned upon drop-off. In the catalog, its most common amount is 7,000 DH, more for high-end SUVs and Luxury cars. A small portion of cars can be rented without a deposit, or without a deposit from a certain age.
Mileage is almost always unlimited: this is the case for almost all the cars offered, which avoids unpleasant surprises on a long road trip. Still, check the listing: a few vehicles have a daily mileage allowance, with a price for each additional kilometer.
Then there are the options: additional driver, child seat, delivery to the airport or another city. Some agencies offer free delivery beyond a certain duration, or a free baby seat. The total displayed before payment includes them all.
How to pay less for your rental in Morocco
Compare for the same duration: view the price for 7 days rather than 3, since the sliding scale rate often changes the ranking. Choose your departure city carefully: picking up the car in Marrakech or Tanger rather than in a small town can cut the bill in half for the same model.
Opt for an economy car if you are staying on paved roads: it is sufficient for almost all itineraries, consumes less fuel, and is cheaper to insure. Finally, read the deposit and deductible on the listing before choosing: a slightly more expensive car without a deposit can be a great deal if you do not have a credit card.
